School Community Slieve Donard Climb

21st Jun 2018

Sunday 17th June past was a memorable day for our school. Led by Jerome and Martin and backed by our Parents' Support Group we organised a Slieve Donard Hill Climb. Around fifty grandparents, parents and children, some as young as Year 2 completed the climb.

We started off around 9.30am, a lovely bright morning and gradually made our way up to the saddle. We had a few breaks along the way but we all had a well earned rest and a snack at the saddle before we pushed for the summit. How different the weather was, as we were now greeted with a cold wind, mist and drizzle. However this didn't deter anyone as everyone was determined to reach the top. And so everyone did at around 12.30pm. There was a great sense of achievement all round.

We then made our way back down somewhat cold and wet to be greeted by the lovely weather we had left in Donard Car Park 4 plus hours earlier.

Everyone then made their way to FLAX at Turleys where Sinead treated us to some lovely hot food. It sure tasted good after our adventure.

Congratulations to everyone who made the climb and a big thank you to Jerome and Martin and also a massive thanks to Sinead who supplied the food free of charge.
