Aoibh

On the 25th of February I started my first day of school at St Marys Dechomet . I was really scared but my first ever teacher Miss O’Hare was really nice but then again all the teachers are really nice. My first ever school trip was to Belfast Zoo in Reception. When I moved up to year two I was really excited because I was getting a new teacher and to me year 2 was just better. Then year three our school won a school trip to the Titanic Centre but since I was only year three I didn’t get to go but our school organised a school trip for Reception to year Three to the cinema and the Parent Support Group had arranged an amazing party for us and we all got sweet bags. In year four I made my First Confession and my First Holy Communion. I sang ‘We come to you Lord Jesus’. I also played my first ever mini league match. When I moved up to year five it was the year of the world cup so our school had a mini tournament. We also went to Craigavon water sports and had a bun sale with loads of amazing and delicious cakes, buns and cookies. Year six was very eventful because I had my first ever trip to Ardnabannon and we all loved it. Then came year seven which was my last year, so I tried to make it the best. This year I made my Confirmation with Maghermayo  and Finnis. There were also many great school trips like: another trip to Ardnabannon, the bookshop, the QFT, Milestone and Castle Espie. We also went to a netball tournament and two football tournaments. I will be really sad to leave because I have had so many happy years here. I will never forget the happy memories good friends and wonderful time I have had here.

Callum

It’s been seven years since I started school but it feels like one week because time flies by with friends and teachers from St. Mary's. They are all amazing people and I’m sad I am leaving them but I’m sure I will stay in contact. My very first day at this school was scary but very fun.  I met friends who would always let me play with them. Their names were Conor, Daniel, Micheal and Shane.

When I was Year three we went on a school trip to the cinema to see the movie The Pirates. It was great,  we brought  our own snacks and sat beside our friends. In Year four we started more advanced work like harder timetables and division. We also had to practice for our Holy  Communion but when it was the  day we had great fun.

In Year six a new boy called Kasper came. He was nice and friendly and settled in well. We also went to Bombardia in Belfast and went in fighter planes and helicopters. Later on we went to Ardnabannon it was great too,  Conor and I were at the front and we went wet bouldering, zip lining and freefalling.

In Year seven we were the oldest in the school and got a new teacher Miss Stewart. She is good at teaching and nice. We had the transfer test coming up but with all our years at St. Marys I knew we would all pass and we did. At Christmas we had our school play. It was Hansel and Gretel.  I was Hansel it was fun to practice for it. Later on our teacher Miss Stewart gave us a project to do,  a scrap book about a famous land mark.  I did the Great Wall of China. We to Ardnabannon again but it was still really good. We did go to Castle Espie to see birds and learn about migration. Miss Stewart gave us another project this time, We made a model of a landmark.  I did The Great Wall again. Most of the Year sevens went to a football tournament. Our  school came second.  The schools then got mixed up into teams and the team I was in the one that won.  I will miss it here because it’s an amazing school.  I hope all the other children coming here have just as great time as me.

Conor

I remember starting in Reception, I was the only one in my class but the year 1’s made me feel welcome and let me play with them. Then Micheal, Olivia, Aoibh and Lucy came and then I had friends in my own class. My first school trip was going to the zoo.

Then it came to year 4 where I made my First Holy Communion, but when it was over we went back to school to eat cake, buns and crisps.  But the best thing in year 4 was the school Mini Football League which  starts in year 4 and it involves all the year 4 up to year 7 pupils being divided into 4 or 5 teams. We played matches at break-time which were refereed by Mr Doyle.

Daniel

It’s hard to believe that my school years have come to an end. When I started school in Year One I made friends with Shane, Callum, Conor, Michael O’Hare and Micheal McEvoy. As the years went on I made friends with the other boys and girls. In Year 4 it came to my First Holy Communion I was nervous but excited for the day. At the Mass I was doing A Prayer of the Faithful. It was a great experience for me and my classmates. In Year 5 our topic was The World Cup, before the tournament started we did predictions on the matches. I got the score right on the first game. We then played a mini World Cup, my team was United States of America we got knocked out in the quarter final. In Year 6 Kasper Andreasen joined our class I was the first one to say hello to him. Later on that year Kasper became a very good friend with all of us and settled in very quickly. In June we went to Ardnabannon and it was a great day for everyone. In the morning we went water bouldering. I was in Kasper’s group, Kasper and I were always at the front of the group. I really enjoyed jumping into the river. When we got back we went on the zip line and freefall it wasn’t scary at all. At the start of the year in Year 7 we were introduced to Miss Stewart our new teacher. In mid-April we made our Confirmation with St Michael’s Finnis and St Matthew’s Maghermayo. I already had made friends from both schools. I chose the name Stephen after Stephen McElroy. In early June we then again went to Ardnabannon. It was the same as last year but even better! It was outstanding. But as Year 7 is drawing to a close I can thoroughly say it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. I have enjoyed every second from 1st September 2009 to 30th June 2016. This has been 7 Great Years at Dechomet. A Big thank you to Mr Doyle, Miss Stewart, Mrs O'Callaghan, Mrs King, Mrs McEvoy, Miss O’Hare, Mrs McCrickard, Mrs McKeown, Miss Cunningham, Mrs O’Hare.

Eimi

I can’t believe it is time to move to a new school in September.

I'm looking forward to starting my new school  but I will miss all my of my friends in Dechomet and I will miss the teachers and the classroom assistants.

The best school  trip was Ardnabannon. I loved the zip line it  so fun . My best friends in St Marys Dechomet are Orla, Rois,  Aoibh, Lucy, Mya, Olivia and Sarah Rose, I loved playing with them outside  My favourite school play was Hansel and Gretel. We performed in our new school hall. Every pupil in the school had a part. In 2015 I played the part as a goblin and I really enjoyed it. I loved being a pupil in this school.

Kasper

I’ve only been in this school for the past two years. I came here at the start of year six feeling very nervous. My nerves soon went away because the teachers and the other boys and girls were really nice to me. I soon settled in.

In year six there was loads of work but lots of fun. I can’t believe year six went so fast. After a hot summer it’s time for year seven. We were so excited because there was a new teacher. Her name was Miss Stewart, I already knew her from my old school and was surprised to see her. Year seven was another good year. We did some interesting topics. I loved the Victorian Day where we relived a real life Victorian school day and we all dressed up, even the teachers. I also loved our trip to Milestone Store for our food topic. We also had other fun trips like a cinema trip to Belfast and outdoor pursuits at Ardnabannon not to mention our football trips. I had a brilliant two years at St Mary’s P.S. and it will be sad to leave. I will never forget this school even when I leave to go to St Colman’s College.

Lucy

I vaguely remember my first day in Reception, I just remember my mum leaving me into the classroom, I was so nervous, I walked in and sat beside Olivia. She was really nice to me and I made friends with Aoibh.  I went on my first school trip to Belfast Zoo.

In Year 2 my best friend Orla started. She sat beside Olivia, I sat next to Aoibh and we all made friends, including Rois and Sarah-Rose, who started in P.1

When I reached year 4, everyone was very excited as it was the month of our Holy Communion. On 11th May 2013 everyone looked their best, I was so nervous because I was singing, “My Shepard is the Lord,” with Orla. I was also doing the Prayer before Communion.

Once I was in Year 6 our school celebrated its 50th Anniversary, I played the Tin Whistle with some other girls. After the Mass we went back to the school where there was loads of scrapbooks and photographs of past pupils and teachers. Tea, sandwiches and buns were provided in the hall. I made a poster with Aoibh about the school’s uniform and teachers. On 8th June 2015 I went on a school trip I had been waiting to go on for a long time… Ardnabannon, There was wet-bouldering, a massive zip-line, a climbing wall and a huge climbing frame. But then there were so many other fun trips not to mention playing on the school football and netball teams.

In Year 7 we made our Confirmation with Maghermayo and Finnis, I did a prayer of the Faithful, we went over to Leitrim Hall afterwards for refreshments, I had some photos taken and overall it was a really fun night, I had so much fun. Year 7 is drawing to an end which is really sad but also really fun because we are all moving up to a new stage in our lives, I will miss my teachers and classroom assistants just as much as I will miss my friends. They were all so nice to me. I enjoyed every last minute of this school from 18th March 2009 to 30th June 2016.

Michael

On my first day I walked in with my twin sister everyone was gazing at me. It wasn’t that bad to be fair. It’s where I met my first friend Conor. Moving on two years we were collecting tickets to go to the Titanic Headquarters but the bigger ones went so we felt gloom. The teachers brought us to the cinema instead and then when came back we had a party. We couldn't believe it when we saw how the Parents' Support Group had decorated our classroom. Even the floor was covered. Now this brings us to the present day. We have had so many great trips and special days. I will really miss this school.

Mya

I remember when I first came to this school in year 5. I came in the classroom and Mrs King greeted me. I sat down and made a friend. In year 6 I met the year 7's I remember the school trips and the sports days and mini league when I was the team leader. All my friends and teachers were great to me.  My favourite   topic at primary school was 'Landmarks'.  I came 1st in the writing and 1st in the art and now I’m leaving school and going to Newbridge. I will come back some day either to teach or to help or to visit.  I will come back as soon as I can but if I can’t I can ask my little brother how well this amazing school is getting on. Even though I'm not catholic even though I’m a missionary it has been the most terrific school I’ve ever been to and I will miss it.

Olivia

I remember on my first day in Reception. I walked into school with my twin brother.  My teacher, Miss O’Hare showed us where to sit. I met my first friends, Aoibh, Conor, Annie.  Later on in Reception year, Lucy joined and I had great friends in my class. I was so happy to hear that my first ever school trip was going to the zoo!

In primary 4 I made my First Holy Communion. I was so scared I might mess up, but my teacher helped me and I wasn’t afraid anymore.  I had a reading to do and the chapel was packed.

Now I’m in primary 7, I can’t believe it has been 8 years.  I have made my Confirmation already. I have had lots of school trips, my favourite one was when we went to the ‘Craigavon Water Sports Centre’.

I have loved all the years I have spent in this school. It definitely does not feel like 8 years. I would recommend this school to anyone!

Orla

I can’t believe my six amazing years of Dechomet primary school is finished. I remember starting in Primary 2.  I was really nervous as I didn’t know anyone in my class. My teacher Mrs McEvoy welcomed me and was really friendly. She introduced me to the five girls in my class. I met Lucy and Aoibh first, they were my friends from the very start.

Year 4 was a very special year as we were going to be making our First Holy Communion. I was going to be singing ‘My Shepherd is the Lord’ with Lucy. Everyone in the class got at least two parts. After the Mass we all went back to the school for refreshments and photographs.

In year five we went to a pantomime to watch Sleeping Beauty.

Year six soon came round and we went on loads of school trips including Ardnabannon, it was amazing. We also went to Bombardia for and educational trip as our topic was ‘Flight’. Bombardia also came to school and we made our own model planes.

Year seven soon arrived we were looking forward to making our Confirmation. We also got to go to Ardnabannon again. In the middle of the year we started electing the student council. We made posters and then everyone voted. I then got elected with 6 other people. We have been having meetings from then on. Year seven was an amazing year.

I have loved this school from the very start and would recommend it. We have had loads of school trips in all of these years and I am sad to leave.

Sarah Rose

I remember the open night of St. Mary’s Primary School Dechomet. At first I wouldn’t talk to anyone, I would just get my mum to read me the many books in the mini library in the P1 classroom. Near the end of the open night I began to talk to Rois Middleton, who was the only girl starting with me (the rest had been in reception). On my first day I made friends with everyone else. I remember in P1 when I won the running race at sports day, I was completely overjoyed! Going into P2 was a big change because it was our first time getting homework as in P1 we just got reading but in P2 we got both. In P2 Orla came into our class. In P3 we went on a school trip to the cinema, it was brilliant, just like all the school trips we went on. In our P3 year Eimi  came into our class. Going into P4 my aunt was teaching us. In P4 we had our Holy Communion and I brought up the Offertory. She was really nice to me just like all the teachers and classroom assistants. In P5 we went to a pantomime of Sleeping Beauty, it was great. In the P5 year Mya joined our class. In P6 we went to another pantomime only this time it was Aladdin, it was amazing. In the P6 year Kasper  came into our class. In P7 we went to Ardnabannon  Outdoor Pursuits. We went in P6 too but I preferred the P7 one though They were both really good trips.

I had a brilliant time at St. Mary’s Primary School Dechomet from the first day of P1 until the last day of P7. The teachers were awesome. I will miss both the teachers and all my friends.

Shane

I remember my first day, I came in very nervous. When Miss O’Hare told me were to sit.  A few minutes later Daniel came in and miss O’Hare told him to sit beside me. I remember making three new friends Callum, Daniel and Michael O’Hare who was still in reception at this point.

When I started Primary 2 my aunt Mrs McEvoy was teaching me. I remember making pencil pots in art, this activity was very fun because we got to paint them afterwards.

In Primary 4 we made our First Confession and I got a Prayer of the Faithful. A few months later we made our Holy Communion. I was doing the Offetry with Sarah-Rose at our Holy Communion. We went to the school after our Holy Communion.

The first day of Primary 6 was a very exciting day. A new boy called Kasper was joining our school. All the boys in our class couldn’t wait for Kasper to come in. The first time we were playing football on the grass Kasper asked “can I go in nets” and everyone said “ok” and found out that he was an excellent goalkeeper.

In Primary 7 for the first time we had a class to ourselves. It was good because the class was quiet but it was a bit different. After the Winter holidays we went to the Milestone, it was a lot better than I expected. We went to Cumann na mBunscol  shortly after that and it was really good. We had two tournaments in Annaclone and the school came second in the first tournament and in the second tournament all the teams were mixed and the team I was in came second.
