Great Success for Our School at Newry Feis

Great Success for Dechomet Pupils at Newry Feis Singing and Music Competitions

Following their participation in Newry Feis ‘Singing and Music’ Competitions, the pupils from Dechomet found themselves coming home with three cups and numerous medals and certificates.

The Solo Singing Competitions took place on Thursday past 6^th April and from very talented and indeed renowned competitors, our Year Six boys' solo singer, was awarded first prize and ‘The Silver Challenge Cup’ (boys category) whilst his classmate  came a fantastic fourth. Then came the girls Solo Singing Competition and this time it was another Year Six pupil, who likewise performed brilliantly to emerge with first prize and ‘The Sister Mercedes Girls Solo Singing Cup’. Another  Year Seven girl, was also awarded a Certificate of Merit.

Then on Friday 7^th April it was the turn of the School Choir, and again, a brilliant performance saw the boys and girls emerge in first place and with it ‘The Jack Doyle Memorial Cup’ to add to Dechomet’s trophy cabinet.

Earlier in the week the school also had great success in violin competitions.

A Big Thank you to all the boys and girls who competed so well and who did our school proud, and to Mrs O'Callaghan (choir mistress), Mrs Graham (Music Tutor) and to Claire McEvoy (pianist) for all their help in preparing the children.
